There is only one reason that Jitin Prasada has gone over to the BJP. Having been blind to the changing political fortunes of the BJP, he has placed his long-term bets on the BJP for his own political longevity. As far as he is concerned the BJP is now the national party while the congress is not and therefore a more long-term secure destination.
Prasada could not be more wrong. Only the imprudent would like to hoodwink themselves and not consider that despite its recent downswing, the Congress is nationally present with varying strong geographical areas word though it may not be the same in comparison to its heyday. It also has sole power in 4 states and a coalition partner in Maharashtra. Whereas, the BJP which was in power as NDA in 21 states in 2018, has gone down to 16 states which, more importantly, account for only 35% of the nation’s land mass as compared to 71% in 2018. It lost its major footholds in central India, wrenching back MP through subterfuge, but the writing on the wall is clear.
That the Congress is the only party that the BJP fears is rooted in the fact that it has a national presence with a 125+ year background. For everything that India is today, including the very tools and platforms that the BJP uses to accusing it of doing nothing in 70 years to divert attention from its own abysmal performance in the last 7 years, the credit goes to the Congress.
The RSS-BJP’ combines unrelentingly targeting of the Gandhi family further elicits the fear that the BJP has of the Congress. It is the only party that is an option for the people nationally, especially with respect to national governance. There is no doubt in every political pundit’s mind that a Congress government will eventually replace the incumbent one at the centre.
Jitin is in the news not because he is any Congress stalwart, as his latest escapade has revealed. The Congress has actually welcomed his departure. Rather, he is in the news because of his ancestors all of 3 generations who have been staunch Congressmen. The partisan media loves to play this up to serve the interests of their masters.
Jitin clearly has also not learnt his lesson from the Jyotiraditya Scindia episode wherein after joining the BJP, the man has got very little in the BJP as compared to what he had for close to a decade with the Congress, in the process also losing all respect. And this was a man who was a Union minister, draws votes consistently froma specific region in MP and comes from an even more illustrious family than Jitin. What Jitin will most likely receive is a repeat of Jyotiraditya Scindia’s state at best.
